Bollywood film 'Pathaan' sparks dance parties in theatres
!goodnews@lemmy.ml www.npr.org/2023/02/02/1153936… The new Bollywood spy thriller Pathaan is transforming movie theaters into dance clubs with its catchy theme — and it's breaking records at the box office in India and abroad.
Then he went to a college that did not have an articulation agreement with the California community college system, so they did not accept his credits.
The more I learn about other states' post secondary education systems, the more I think that Wisconsin seems to be the only one that has it right in the U.S. Every public school in the state, including every two-year institution, it's all the University of Wisconsin. Whether you are going to the flag ship UW-Madison (i.e. home of the Wisconsin Badgers) or the two-year Community College in Rice Lake [i.e. The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire - Barron County Campus (UW-EC-BC)] all of the credits are the same everywhere no questions of transfers or acceptance. There's really very little reason to go to UW-Madison (or UW-Eau Claire, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, etc.) for the first two years unless you just like spending money with little expected return on investment, as the prices vary greatly from campus to campus.
@LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} one of my worst finical decisions was paying out-of-state tuition for 4 years because I wanted to go "somewhere nobody knew me" (another being marrying my college sweetheart who did the same). If our kids want to go to college, we are willing to pay for them to go 2 years to the local Community College. (Or we can give the same money to start a business, pay expenses during an apprenticeship, etc.)
@LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} yeah so I would have graduated HS during that time frame. It certainly existed, as my college classmates had these magic things, but unless I'm a complete moron it wasn't deeply embedeed in the American Education system. I knew of classmates from high school that did the "dual enrollment" thing where the State paid for them to attend the Wisconsin equivalent of Community College whilst still taking some classes in High School, but they had to be invited to do so because they were smart as all get out (the fact they were well connected in the community, daughter of one of the largest employers in town, and son of an Olympic gold medalist respectively, probably didn't hurt).
"A.P. exams are deeply embedded in the American education system."
When did this happen? I never even heard of it until after I graduated high school and got to college with a bunch of other freshmen who magically had college credits without having to pay anyone. My HS wasn't that small, I had a graduating for class of like 118. web.archive.org/web/2023020114…
"Originally a product of the New Deal, the first farm bill in 1933 focused on commodity price support to provide relief for farmers and ensure a steady domestic food supply for Americans during the Great Depression.
Since then, lawmakers have passed 18 farm bills and greatly expanded the reach of the legislation."
yes basically, they got rid of the lenten fast and adopted the experimental '62 missal, I wouldn't recommend them, but I do think they're going in the right direction.
They didn't take a traditional view to its logical conclusion but seem to have stopped midway into a position that in our view seems contrary to Catholicism, of "recognizing" a "pope" and yet "resisting" him (or not choosing to obey commands they would otherwise judge lawful). If they seem to think they must resist a "pope", this seem to logically imply such a person is not pope to begin with. Hence sedevacantism seems to be the logical view for Catholics today.
Francis has said for example that "Lutherans are not mistaken on the doctrine of justification"; recall that Lutherans seem to believe a person is justified by "faith alone" rather than any works, as Catholics believe. This was an open statement in support of Lutheran heresy, showing Francis to be an open heretic. A group that isn't exactly SSPX but maybe a little "less" than them seems to ask the question then about if Francis is a heretic or about how a "pope" should be dealt with who has embraced heresy: onepeterfive.com/recant-luther…
It is in no way acceptable, therefore, for Pope Francis, even as a “private theologian,” privately or publicly, to praise and extol well known heresies, formally damned by the Magisterium of the Church.
This sounds correct, but they don't follow through to the logical conclusion that such a "pope" is a heretic as a result. They are trying to avoid "judging the First See" (the pope is judged by no one). Admittedly no one knows how a "heretical pope" is supposed to be dealt with, which seems to logically imply God would not allow Catholics to be confronted with such a situation. Instead it has been suggested either John XXIII was a heretic prior to his election (as he was formally suspect of Modernism by the Holy See) or at least that John Paul I would not have been able to become pope in the first place, which avoids the problem of a "heretic pope" as instead there is a heretic who fails to become pope. (So by the time of Francis, there are a few invalid papal "elections")
Vatican 2 errs, therefore a person could not be elected and be pope who supports Vatican 2; so from at least after "Paul VI" no pope could have been elected. With John XXIII / Roncalli, some statements prior to his "election" have been argued to prove he was not Catholic and incapable of being elected. At least there are retrospective doubts about the changes that culminated in the confusion of Vatican 2.
Religious liberty is different than mere toleration; the Church has often tolerated different non-Catholic religious groups to varying degrees. But "religious liberty" goes further, ending in implied absurdities like that we couldn't legally object to people having abortions "conscientiously". What is a "reasonable limit" on religious liberty is not defined, hence it seems logically implied a Catholic would have to reject such ambiguity as not Catholic (as it otherwise opens the door for many harms).
edit: I think I'd like to add that it seems people have incorrect motives in arguing against sedevacantism, which seems to be "obviously true" at times. I suspect people do not typically look at these arguments seriously but they simply translate to concern that God will judge the many who are part of the seemingly non-Catholic Vatican 2 church. It is then easier for a lot of people to try to dismiss the sedevacantists as not Catholic instead. Admittedly many sedevacantists seem unaware of this "translation" of the argument that's taking place. Suffice it to say, God will judge people justly and I imagine someone who genuinely but erroneously thinks the Vatican 2 church to be Catholic and acts accordingly will be judged accordingly. But I think if people focus on the issues disinterestedly, the sedevacantist argument seems to prevail, and they ought also to act accordingly and God will judge them proportionately.
This is silly. People are acting like they are screwing up children by encouraging them to attend. That's not what this is, the kids who are here were going to the convention with their parents anyway. So whatever "screwing up" you are worried about is already in the hands of their family. This is no different than "kids eat free on Tuesdays" Its about encouraging parents who might want to come, but the price of bringing their kids along, or paying for a babysitter (which probably isn't going to happen while you are at Con) you just let them come along anyway. While I wouldn't bring my kids to something like this, but I would bring them to say a Bible conference, either way the kids don't actually want to be there and are probably just gonna sit and play with their tablet, or whatever other busy items/toys is preferred at their age.

The celebration includes screenings of famous silent films, with musical accompaniment on the Barton Theatre Pipe Organ that has been played at the Redford Theatre since it first opened. The organ will be played by organists who are well-known in the Detroit area for their many fine performances at the Redford Theatre and other area venues.
Also part of the celebration will be a special personal appearance in May by Harold Lloyd's granddaughter Suzanne Lloyd, for a weekend of movies starring Harold Lloyd.
The anniversary fun starts this Friday and Saturday with a movie from the 1920s and a movie about the 1920s: * Sunrise (1927), with organ accompaniment by Stephen Warner * Singin' in the Rain (1952), starring Gene Kelly in a musical comedy about the transition from silent to talking pictures

I think it's also important to note that all believers are saints. The only difference between saints and Saints is "big S" ones the Church has confirmed are in heaven.
