@why These people have really perfected their digital drug racket. A steady stream of perfectly useless information keeps hijacking our brain's reward system even though we just filled it with the informational equivalent of packing peanuts.
It's really the same with politics tbh. I can see why people grew up to watch and even enjoy watching the news. -

@why To be fair, it's an alternate path to Valve's success with Steam sales. If I have to wait for a steam sale to buy the game, I wasn't interested enough to play more than a couple of hours. -

@why Microsoft actually did it; they made gamers pay a monthly fee for demos. They only had to also give you the full game, but they know if you actually planned to play the game more than you would a demo, you'd have already bought that shit full price on launch. -

@manarock In hindsight, my reaction to it was over-the-top and not quite as mature as yours. I didn't (and still don't) subscribe to the modern notion that dating should be like trying clothes; I always only ever went on dates with one girl during the same time period, and went back to dating sites/apps to schedule dates with other girls only after I knew it was over. But I really should not have been surprised or shocked to find out that it's not how it worked for her. -

@manarock I think what bothered me the most was that she was clearly not as invested in me as I was in her. I had such a blast talking with her, we made sparks, I thought we had a special connection, that this could be it, while (I presume) she thought I was just a guy that's cool sometimes, maybe there's something there, maybe not. -

@manarock I guess karma had my back on that one though, she found out on the late that the other guy was gay. -

@manarock Yeah, some years ago I was interested in a friend of a friend and she did something like that. I did not react quite as well. Drank myself sick. I guess the difference was that she was making excuses to not go on dates with me to prioritize the other guy, though I'm not sure if it would have made a difference had she been straight with me about it. -

Did try out **Elite Dangerous** again, and yeah, for a game to lose hours and hours in VR, this is it. Not sure about the expansions, and I'll have to get reacquainted with the bindings on my HOT ASS. But there's tens if not hundreds of hours to milk there.
Still trying to get **Microsoft Flight Simulator** to run well. I did make some progress and it's definitely playable in less computationally expensive areas. But it could be better and I know it would be mindblowing if only I could get just a biiit more out of it. It's really quite the tease. I can't believe that this is considered a supported feature if a computer like mine is not able to run it quite satisfactorily yet! I'm only one "tier" down from top-of-the-line, if I can't, then who is this for? Only people with an i9 and an RTX 3080 or above? That would be completely cray cray!
Played some **Star Wars Squadrons** matches vs AI; it seems to be tougher to run those than the single player campaign, had slightly worse performance. But I had assumed that since this game was on a pretty well optimized engine that I could just max out everything in VR. Not quiiiiite so, turns out. Will have to optimize a bit more, but I'm confident I will get this one running satisfactorily.
Tried out **American Truck Simulator**. Works well enough. I'm surprised VR is still considered "beta" for this. I played ETS2 in VR on my DK2 in what, 2014? 2015? It worked well back then and still works well now; what's "beta" about it? It's more mature in its VR support than many pure VR games. On a side note: ahah truck go brrr.
**Pistol Whip** is basically people looking at what were the top 2 most impressive/popular games for VR and decided to merge them together. So it is basically Superhot VR and Beat Saber shoved into a blender. Runs well, plays well, had me hit my rooms walls a couple of times. Maybe a bit simplistic? But will definitely be used to showcase to friends and family (provided the place has enough space for it not to become dangerous). On a side note, I think maybe VR games should refrain from encouraging punching motions until people are more accustomed to VR or have demonstrated they have enough room for it; I can imagine a lot of accidents being caused by blind punching. And one of the difficulties is that unless you have enough room ALL AROUND you, you might not know that you are not facing where you think you are and that there is now an obstacle in front of you before you punch. One trick I try to use to stay in position is that I have one of my calves stay in contact with my bed. That does allow me to have some certainty as to my position in my room
**Alien: Isolation** somehow still doesn't officially support VR, but still works, although better now since it's a mod and not just a switch in an INI file that broke parts of the graphics (looking at monitors in the game in VR back then was headache inducing). It hasn't aged as well as I thought it would, it's still just a controller game. But the alien is still terrifying.
When I said that in VR default controls often weren't quite right and failed at having pleasant, sane default controls? **Half Life: Alyx** is the example they should all be looking at. As far as VR games go, it just... works. I've seen good looking experiences and games in VR, some better than this. I've seen more impressive interactivity (not by a lot, but I've seen them). But everything just comes together in this game. Graphics look more than good enough for immersion to kick in and make you forget it's a game, performance is buttery smooth (once I fixed an issue with textures by verifying local file integrity, a weird bug but the fix worked), controls are natural and very rarely fail or break, interactivity in the world is high, and it all reacts how you would expect it to. I don't know if I would say it's VR's "killer app", I don't believe anyone I know would run out to buy a VR headset after playing this (I can see them doing that after playing Beat Saber, not this though). But it sets a standard for how VR games SHOULD be. -

Additional thoughts on games and tech…
First off in general, I have barely been using my PSVR before I got this, and it turns out I pretty much lost my “VR legs”. So yes, you can “lose it”.
Got Polybius and Moose Life and Minotaur Arcade Volume 1 to work fine now. They look how they did on PS4, they don’t really benefit from the G2, Polybius might even be slightly less smooth (due to 90hz on G2 vs 120hz on PSVR), but not worth keeping or plugging my PS4 for.
It seems one of the genre of game/experience that’s popular in VR these days is the “just play around with guns” genre, so I got the one that seemed the most recommended nowadays: Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. Controls are a mess, I can see how someone who really wants to tweak their experience can get games to work juuust right, but this (and many) of the games I’ve tried have failed at having pleasant, sane default controls. But once I got a bit accustomed, then yes. Playing around with guns in VR is very fun. They’re such neat mechanical objects with satisfying slides and pulls and switches, it’s no wonder people enjoy playing with them IRL too.
Then for some of the tactical VR shooters… Tried Onward (offline, I’m not confident enough for online) which seemed to be the more realism focused one. There are some really freaking cool ideas in that game, and it’s really fun how your equipment are placed on your body the way it would be in real life. Had some problems due to inside out tracking on the G2 though; when you place the “back” controller close enough to your face that you can aim down sights, the controller is too close for good tracking. The game has a solution for that, a “virtual stock” that when the back hand is close enough to your face, the gun’s stock kinds of “lock” to your characters shoulder allowing for smooth aim down sights despite tracking, but I’ve also had issues where this triggered just walking with the gun not aimed high. Hopefully this can or will be tweaked, because it’s a good solution to hardware limitations that’s ALMOST right. Another problem is that the game is not for sitting VR, period. You don’t need full roomscale, but you need to play standing and when you want to crouch, you need to crouch. There is no button to do it, on purpose.
Just did the training for Pavlov VR; not impressed with the default controls, but I’m sure this can be somewhat adjusted. Aiming seems to be a bit smoother and easier than Onward. Will have to play a bit more.

@Moon Considering the fiasco of the animation in Mass Effect Andromeda, maybe they SHOULD have hired the people behind Garfield Pet Force. -
