PSA: last night one of our pyrex cooking dishes exploded.
not fractured, exploded. “pyrex isn’t supposed to do that” we thought.
as of a few years ago, Pyrex sold their brand, the new company changed glass recipe as a cost cutting measure, resulting in a pandemic of exploding cookware and a class action lawsuit.
thankfully the patent has expired and the keyword to look for in competing glass cookware products is “borosilicate glass”

@kaikatsu @xj9 @socalledunitedstates there is a line. a well documented and well understood line. you are correct that we haven’t crossed it yet, but we are moving closer. the threshold for revolt is 40% of the population living under the poverty line. in the USA this is somewhat moderated by the militarised police and misguided liberalism. world wheat stores used to be at 2 weeks. since the “cleansing” of syria we’re down to 4 days.

@lnxw48a1 @bthall @bthall curious why you don’t like markdown- as for LaTeX, it’s good for two things: Maths equations and its word wrapping algorithm; both of which you can get by using another lang and pandoc to convert to LaTeX - and virtually any math program to build equations and output the LaTeX (defacto standard)

@arturovm @lnxw48a1 but someone whose main job is not “do computers” will get frustrated when a button is grayed out or missing in msword and the program will not explain what’s happening, and the answer is a setting in a panel buried 5 levels deep.

@arturovm @lnxw48a1 i speak to a broad range of skill levels. obviously power users and programmers may or may not have a problem editing a json file to get their work done.

@arturovm @lnxw48a1 the problem with any configuration is it changes program behavior. that sounds like stating the obvious, but a lot of users can only navigate computers by writing down or memorising sequences of steps. configuring what happens in the sequence somewhere else can be distressing and confusing.
