How to choose the best blogging platform. Unsurprisingly, they chose #WordPress, and specifically the self-hosted ".org" version of WordPress.
Based on their criteria, it is hard to argue that most widely-used platforms are either harder to use or may be hard to get a useful export if you decide to leave them. I just think that since WP sites are said to be about 1/4 of the Web and they are constantly under attack, it can be difficult and frustrating to keep up with updates (and especially updates to add-ons / extensions and themes) or to know when to disable / delete an add-on that isn't being updated quickly enough in response to a security exploit.
People *do* need to learn to take some responsibility for their own only presences, but then we need to make sure they know up front that this is part of the package.
For todays #FollowFriday I'm going to do something a bit different. We have a lot of new users, one of the biggest surges we have seen in a while. As such a lot of new users are looking for high quality, long-standing, accounts to follow. Similarly many of the new users need some help getting attention and making new friends.
As such I am going to do this #FF in a few parts. One for old users I have mentioned in previous posts, as well as some of the new users who have been making quality posts and been active for at least a week now. Hopefully this will be more helpful.
Also a section for some bots might be useful.
I will use a persons profile description here as I dont want to misrepresent anyone.

Hey #Oakland folks! I'm holding open hours at #ImpactHubOakland today! That means you can *ask maiki anything* (though stuff I know about will get better results)! ^_^
To avoid confusion, here's a step-by-step guide to putting your #Wordpress blog on the #Fediverse:
1. Log into your Wordpress site
2. Go to "Plugins", "Add New", search for "ActivityPub" plugin, install and activate it.
3. Go to "Users", then "Your Profile". Scroll down, and right at the bottom there's a new section called "Fediverse" with the blog's Fediverse address.
4. Share this address on #Mastodon etc, people will be able to follow it by pasting it into the search box and following it!
I discovered a thing called org2blog a couple of nights ago which will post blog articles from #orgmode to #wordpress. I might have to give it a try and live the dream of @lohang and be a part of the blog reannaisance. (Note: I doubt I will return to regular blogging anytime soon. It was a lot of work and I haven't the time anymore. I do like playing with fancy toys though so I will play with the programme anyway)
I need to set up a website for a #comedy podcast I'm doing with an old friend and collaborator. I'm thinking of just using an off-the-shelf service like #Wordpress.com or #Squarespace, to keep it simple. But if there's a #cooperative doing something like this, using only #FreeCode software, at a similar price, I'd rather support them than lease a #VPS and spend hours doing my own sysadmin.
I use #WordPress in my professional and fun life. I'm disappointed that #WPChat (Discourse instance) is bent to serve capitalism, so I'm inviting WP discussion and (slow) support queries at #talkgroup:
@varx I sometimes contact the webmasters / editors of activist and independent media websites to ask if they knew about all the scripts from third-party domains that #NoScript has to block for me when I visit their sites. Often they have no idea. I suspect that often scripts are being called by off-the-shelf JS modules built into #WordPress themes and the like. @Shamar@alcinnz@aral
