Kenny switched from AT&T DSL to Verizon Wireless. He says he's getting steady speeds about 25X whst he got with DSL. I told him about T-Mobile's version being oversold and underbuilt. He says VZW recently rolled this out to his market, so he'll have to keep watch.

Appears #T-Mobile / #Sprint ( and #US_Cellular, a smaller carrier which partly rides on Sprint's network ) are having problems with both voice and data connections.
It was earlier thought that #ATT and #VZW were also affected, but the article says that is not the case.

@geniusmusing “The effort distracted the company from upgrading or repairing much of its fixed-line broadband footprint, since investing in networks isn't profitable enough, quickly enough, for many on Wall Street.”
LOL. They stopped investing in their network around the time that NYC got hit by a big storm. I remember reading that #Verizon told people whose telephones and Internet service stopped working to get #VZW cellphones and hotspots instead. They sold off their wireline networks in several states (including California, where things have improved quite a bit with Frontier after a shaky switchover). I’m pretty sure they aren’t expanding their FiOS fiber Internet network except in a very limited set of locations.

I got an odd warning from #NOAA / #NWS: "TOEEAX"
Apparently, #VZW Verizon cellular network cannot reach 9-1-1 emergency in Johnson County, #MO (Near KC) as of about 20:00 CDT.

Straight Talk: "You're about to lose your phone number"
Me: It doesn't matter. I can't use the hotspot in #PR because it rides atop #VZW and their not present here.

#PR_Status: electric grid (AEE): 99.30% repaired; water system (AAA): 98.59%; telecommunications: 98.50%; cell sites: 94.13%; gas stations: 88%.
All numbers from http://status.pr/?lng=en
My primary hotspot rides on the #VZW network and has been useless here. I bought a 2nd one that uses #AT_T's network.

@zoowar @jezra AFAIK, there is no more wired #VZ in California, only #VZW. They sold that whole wired division to #Frontier. #Verizon

Mostly as in the hardware works but #VZW's network can be unusably flaky sometimes.
