@haveheart Compulsory Militant #Vegan Comment: It was only after transitioning from lacto-ovo vegetarian to vegan that I was able to admit to myself that the economics of large-scale dairy production totally depends on farmers being able to sell bobby calves as meat. I only eat eggs if I'm met the chickens, and I'm confident their lives are as good as the average weka plus health care: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weka
@musicman I would agree, but #sonTwo cannot eat beans (or most legumes), so we used to have separately prepared regular (meat and beans) and bean-free chili.
Being a #vegan, I was the ultimate #LCHF (Low Carb Healthy Fat) sceptic. But a while back I met a medical doctor who had great results with it, and a special person in my life tried it as a last ditch effort to deal with an "untreatable" chronic illness, with amazing results over the last 6 months. The more I learn, the more the science seems to back it: https://www.newsroom.co.nz/2019/07/16/683897/why-a-laxative-was-used-in-a-recipe-for-sausage-rolls
I want to see #JoeRogan interview #PatrikBarboumian on his podcast and try to tell him you can't get buff on an entirely plant-based diet. This guy has been a #vegan since 2011 and was filmed for the 2018 #documentary The Game Changers, flipping over a car with his bare hands, and breaking a Guinness world record for carrying weights: http://patrikbaboumian.com/
@pinkprius@luka I heard recently that lab grown meat is now commercially available. The obvious question is ... can you get human? ;P On a more serious note, how do the production costs compare to plants? After more than 20 years of #vegetarian/ #vegan eating, I have zero interest in eating anything resembling dead animal myself. But ... *shrug* ... whatever floats your boat (and doesn't require killing).
@Matter according to #GeorgeMonbiot, who has been reporting on climate change for decades, the two significant things we can do as consumers are go #vegan and stop flying (he has). Farming of non-human animals and the airline industry are the two largest contributors to global carbon emissions. Most of what needs to be done will be large-scale organizing, but I think it's more likely to happen through 'open source' style organizing than governments, who seem to be mostly captured. @philosopher
@rgh I'm #vegan because meat eating and exploiting animals for milk and cheese and eggs as it is today cannot be detached from cruelty, it is killing our planet, consequently it's causing more poverty, and it's not healthy to human body.
We are shooting ourselves in the foot (head?) while 1% is getting wealthier.
Also I'm quite sure that we were not born to drink milk not from our own species and chew meat.
