By the way, @tobias, I think your #Textile plugin for #StatusNet was the basis for @chimo's #Markdown plugin for #GNUsocial. -

@geniusmusing Hmm. I don't like #Markdown, but I might try it out and see if I can patch it to accept #Textile. -

I don’t use #LaTeX because I do not know it, but I would learn it if I had a regular requirement to write documents (current $EMPLOYER doesn’t use it, so the training guides and tech tips that I create for the rest of the #TechTeam does not count).
For the kinds of things it is suited for, I don’t think I’d substitute another markup language, not even the two I like, #Textile and #ReStructuredText.
I’m not a fan of #Markdown, so I try to avoid it whenever I can.

@bob @kaniini @waifu Posts are already distributed as HTML. They always have been. That's why the #Textile and #Markdown plugins for SN/GS were useful. -

@amic No. GS has plugins that add support for #Textile and #Markdown, but not #BBCode (yet). -

@dwmatiz @kaniini Expected. GS has had #Textile and #Markdown plugins available for years. -

@moonman @deadsuperhero @maiyannah The orinal plugin is #Textile. @chimo created the #Markdown plugin later. -

@clacke True. It hasn't been updated for the post #bifurcation fediverse, where larger character limits are the norm instead of the exception (and where some instances use #Markdown or #Textile to enable formatted posts). -

@Aerdan for me Textile or ReST is a close second to Markdown. they're certainly more capable. however, there's still the occassion where the syntax is not so intuitive and i don't love that. i will say, it's a million trillion times better than godforsaken wiki markup. here's some old thoughts on the matter of #markup and one that tends to be fairly #Markdown positive and anti #MoinMoin though it really doesn't look too much at the likes of #Textile or #ReST
