@clacke I also saw people talking about the main #Rust group threatening trademark complaints against gcc-rust. I did not follow any links to learn more.
And here's why the AV detects it. They don't have many samples written in #Nim, and most that they have are malware / trojans. But attackers are using more than just #Nim-lang. They're also using #GoLang, #DLang, and #Rust. This suggests that antivirus vendors need to get smarter.
Correction: #Pijul ... it is a #dvcs / #scm system written in #Rust, and an evolution of some of the ideas behind #Haskell's #Darcs, including fleshing out the theoretical basis and solving a couple of major bugs.
@geniusmusing I do have #Rust, #Cargo, and #Pijol installed on the main laptop and on the Win10 laptop, so learning to use Rust is something on my mind.
* #M / #MUMPS unified database & language
* Forked from #GT.M by long-time members of the GT.M dev team
* Compatibility / interop with #C, #Go, #Rust, #Perl, ...
I continue to really like #rust as a programming language. Even though I'm writing more #raku these days, I still love Rust (and am writing something in it right now).
That said, it's increasingly clear to me that Rust is _primarily_ targeted at the Big Tech usecase (aka "at scale") and only secondarily interested in the Free Software usecase.
If you’re interested in !TclTk, then you may find #jsish interesting, because its internals are designed based on some of Tcl’s internals, and because it integrates the #Fossil #DVCS and can be updated using standard Fossil commands.
I’m not doing that. There’s another way to get Rustup, and I can make it use the OS installation as default, too. It’ll allow me to use their then-current version when I need to without losing the OS-installed default.
(I’m so very glad that both #gdc and #ldc for !DLang, along with #dub, are in Debian / Ubuntu and work fine. I’m not a #Rustacean or #Rusticrucian, so I don’t want something that I’ll forget to update between my occasional uses.)
As for side projects, in their new, limited-resource world, every new project takes resources away from #Firefox, #Thunderbird, and #Rust. Sometimes that's worth the cost, sometimes it isn't, but take a look at how many projects they've abandoned (such as their mobile OS).
The speaker I'm currently watching is working on a #Rust version that should be compatible and interchangeable with the #Node.js version. Not finished yet, obviously. There are a lot of pieces.
@dwaltiz#Matrix ( #Synapse ) appears to be very inefficient to host, but I don't think #Python can be blamed for most of it, or their #Rust rewrite would not have stalled. I think they made to protocol too complex. And storing history forever on the server was an error, IMO. It means that if you're willing to give it an hour or so to scroll back (seriously), you can retrieve stuff that is way old, but why? Better to purge stuff after some reasonable period (30-90 days) and relieve both storage pressure and users' wait time.
Secondly, I think they needed to give more attention to their encryption issues earlier. My personal contacts mostly left over the continued cannot retrieve this message because ... has not sent us the key.
Thirdly, Client synchronization is still a problem. If I have Riot / miniVector / Nheko open on three different devices, two or three times a day, they'll lose sync on downloading new messages and stay that way for an hour or more at a time.
I am personally willing to give them more time to deal with these issues, but partly because without any contacts, I don't deal with most of those issues much any more. I use it mostly as an #IRC bouncer and secondly for a very small group of rooms which themselves have low traffic.
♲ @switchingsoftware@mstdn.swiso.org: Hi Fediverse 👋
@LemmyDev is a reddit alternative and currently looking for contributions. They want to join the Fediverse, so there is a lot of work ahead of them 💻
If you are intrigued: With experiences in #rust and/or #activitypub , please offer a helping hand. Without these, feel free to spread the word 🙃
