It just dawned on me how similar #English phrasal verbs are to the entire #Russian verb system except that "phrasal" verbs in Russian aren't written as two-separate words, despite the recurring prefixes and suffixes that occur in them.

Dammit, another #Russian pun I got.

Maybe my Russian is actually getting better by following it on the timeline.

I own a dictionary of #Russian that groups words by roots. It's really interesting how, for example, the words for parents, generation, birth, originating and so forth all share the same root.

I wonder what is it about Russian in particular that allows the neat categorisation of words by root. Have Slavic languages been more isolated or something? And have had to rely on greater #linguistic production from fewer roots?

@lapis #Russian does the inclusionary "we" with a weird turn of phrase, "мы с тобой (we with you)". I had a girlfriend who would calque that into Spanish with "nosotros contigo". It was cute. Nonsense, but cute, and I knew what she meant.

While the #Russian government has been portrayed as a technological and #hacking mastermind in the wake of its escalating global disinformation and hacking campaign, there's nothing at all competent about its effort to block #Telegram.

The result?

It broke the Russian #Internet. People are reporting that lots of online services and even some credit card terminals are not working.
