It's a #Soviet-era #Russian film explaining #SpecialRelativity. I listen to it over and over to practice my Russian. Repetition and a familiar subject help a lot.

It just dawned on me how similar #English phrasal verbs are to the entire #Russian verb system except that "phrasal" verbs in Russian aren't written as two-separate words, despite the recurring prefixes and suffixes that occur in them.
I own a dictionary of #Russian that groups words by roots. It's really interesting how, for example, the words for parents, generation, birth, originating and so forth all share the same root.
I wonder what is it about Russian in particular that allows the neat categorisation of words by root. Have Slavic languages been more isolated or something? And have had to rely on greater #linguistic production from fewer roots?
@drequivalent as a #Russian speaker I assume you have spent time in VK land. Do you know if folks have started preaching the word of #ActivityPub / #fediverse over there yet? I bet there are groups of super competent Russian speaking devs who have dealt with censorship issues and might not have heard of our side of the internet yet.
@lapis#Russian does the inclusionary "we" with a weird turn of phrase, "мы с тобой (we with you)". I had a girlfriend who would calque that into Spanish with "nosotros contigo". It was cute. Nonsense, but cute, and I knew what she meant.
While the #Russian government has been portrayed as a technological and #hacking mastermind in the wake of its escalating global disinformation and hacking campaign, there's nothing at all competent about its effort to block #Telegram.
The result?
It broke the Russian #Internet. People are reporting that lots of online services and even some credit card terminals are not working. NordVPN says it saw a 150% spike in Russian usage in the wake of the #ban.
It's a black day for #russian internets: a bill draft was proposed by Russian government that bans usage of #VPN, #Tor, and other anonymizers. This happened only 10 days after a Tor exit node administrator #DmitryBogatov was arrested. Being anonymous is now a crime in Russia... #freeBogatovhttps://rublacklist.net/27859/
