Compared to dedicated servers and protocols, such as #IRC and #XMPP, you end up throwing a lot of resources per user. This makes me think that the web-based ones work for teams (as a shared space for ambient documentation and file sharing), but not as a public service.Of course #jabber exceeds at scale due to federation. And not *just* because AWS charged me $6k one month. ^_^I am hoping people starting building to #Minio instead of S3, and every self-hosted web app seems to cater to S3 and Cloudfront: #Discourse, #RocketChat, #WordPress plugins, #NextCloud, all these things I'd like to deploy for peeps around me, and deserve the same backups, but rely on S3...

I prefer #RocketChat over Slack, but I totally get the use case.I would love to counter-point all the critique thrown at Slack, but for now I will say, using it for certain kinds of conversations blows alternatives away.To me, #Matrix is a merge between Slack-like chat with the principles behind #OStatus, and that makes a product that can replace a whole bunch of G Suite.
