Forty US states get almost $400,000,000 in #Google location #privacy lawsuit https://nu.federati.net/url/288931 [www thecentersquare com]

They spin this as a win, but (1) it wasn't the states' privacy that was being violated, so why is all the money being split by the states?, and (2) it says Google will make its settings more clear, but it does not say that location tracking and data sales will be OFF by default (which is how it should be).

It introduces many improvements for encrypted uploads and a client-side document cache to speed up page load time.

Google started editing people's e-mails in GSuite, replacing links with a link through google.com:https://mobile.twitter.com/sneakdotberlin/status/1317734739537653760https://twitter.com/tblodt/status/1317875714981416962?s=20

This means that Google will track a click on a link *in e-mail* even if you're using an external client.

I am *guessing* this is under the pretext of phishing protection, but it actually *creates* additional phishing risk for text-only clients, since now all links are google.com links.

#privacy #itsec #security #tor #cloudflare using Tor shows how much sites are hidden behind Cloudflare. Yesterdays DNS problem of them showed even more of this privacy problem.

With the EU making it clear that data transfer to US is not allowed this opens the question if transparent proxying traffic through Cloudflare is illegal now too. Especially where this opens MITM data collecting.

IMHO sites behind Cloudflare should be blocked making them learn that privacy is valued.

Yet another reason to wonder whether #Zoom’s management is just ignorant about #privacy and #security, or actively malicious. “End to end” encryption has a specific meaning, namely that messages sent from your device are encrypted until they arrive at your recipients’ devices, so that no one in between, including any service providers, can read the message payload. If that is not the case, it is not #E2EE.
