Hard Rock Cafe San Juan #PR closed in 2020, but a new one opened in Poncé on the South side of the island. https://nu.federati.net/url/289348 [newsismybusiness com]
I used to eat at a place adjacent to the building. -

The curse of the subtropics, I guess. When I worked in #PR, many nights had hot, warm air outside. Also, #muskies can fly at heights that I'd not considered reachable. Most places didn't have screens on the windows.
Yes, even in tourist zones of #Puerto_Rico, there were plenty of mosquitoes. In conversation from web permalink -

The 12:00 Eastern Time update lists storm surge of up to 18 feet above normally dry ground. That is in addition to any tides and in addition to any fresh water flooding due to rainfall. #Hurricane #Ian is extremely dangerous for #FL. Probably even worse than #Fiona was for #PR. #TropStorm #Fiona became #Hurricane Fiona shortly before the center slammed into Puerto Rico. Next is the Dominican Republic. In #PR, all power was knocked out, despite #Luma staging line crews on the island in preparation for the storm. https://nu.federati.net/url/287855 [www nbcnews com] https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/18/weather/tropical-storm-fiona-sunday/index.html [www cnn com] https://nu.federati.net/url/287856 [apnews com]

#NOAA / #NWS: #Danielle is now a #TropStorm, but expected to become a #Hurricane again soon. Still not threatening land. #Earl remains a Tropical Storm, still expected to drop heavy rainfall on #PR, #USVI / #BVI, and the northern Leeward Islands.
#Javier is still a Tropical Storm. Still TS watches and warnings along the coasts of southern Baja California. In conversation from web permalink -

Dealing with hotels is such a bother. If I am set to be in your establishment for a month or more, you don't have to put a hold on my card for the entire amount. You can hold a week at a time, so I have the ability to pay for other work related expenses.
Getting contacted by HQ about the hotel's excessive holds is also not fun. This happened in #PR also, but never anywhere else before I came to #NYC.In conversation from mustard permalink -

As of last month, there are only three #Kmart stores left in the continental US. https://nu.federati.net/url/286432 [www usatoday com]
.
I thought they were all gone years ago. I saw one in Puerto Rico when I was there. I thought it odf that #PR still had Kmart, but nowhere else that I knew of.In conversation from mustard permalink Attachments

People working for the national help desk popping up on MSTeams to ask for help with a ticket.
I think I'm going to start referring them to the IT Guide put out by a guy in Puerto Rico. The #PR guide doesn't have answers for every problem, but it probably covers half of the things they call on me for. (Their fixes site is outdated--and scattered all over the place by a migration, so I understand why they're reaching out.)In conversation from AndStatus permalink -

#PR's power outage continues. #PREPA and #Luma_Energy continue trying to bring power back.
By region, reports say that Arecibo and Bayamon (23% and 24% out) are doing best, while Ponce (63% out) is doing worst. They also say the current outage reports underestimate the proportion of customers without power.

Opened MSTeams this week and noticed that one IT guy I worked with in #PR is now “unknown”.
$EMPLOYER wasn’t really a good fit for his needs anyway. He lived in one of the Great Lakes states, was providing care for both his father and stepfather, and had some issues with his own offspring.
When we were in Puerto Rico, a bigwig from NYC showed up and was hostile and disparaging toward the tech staff. He complained to the head of the local operation and the bigwig was forced to write an apology. But then he was sent home suddenly, months earlier than expected.
Hopefully, he found another job and pulled the plug 🔌 himself. In conversation from Shoyu permalink -

I don't know a timeline, but I know ETH is working on a switch from PoW (mining) to PoS (staking). I first heard about it 2-3 years ago, while working in #PR. Shortly afterwards, a co-worker offered to sell me his multi-thousand dollar Ethereum mining rig. I guess he didn't know I saw the same article he did. In conversation from web permalink -

All of this is a subset of the “a node within another node, which is a child node” discussions that happened upstairs when I was working in #PR. It turned out that they were building an HR module.

A tip: no matter how pricey* the #hotel, bring your own soap and shampoo and TP.
There’s something wonderful about using products that do not make your skin feel like you just poured a corrosive chemical over yourself ( or rubbed sensitive parts with sandpaper ), but the industry does not want to pay for such products.
* I work for the US government. As a rule, government does not pay for the highest priced hotels. But when I was in #PR ( #Puerto_Rico, not to be confused with Google’s #Page_Rank algorithm ), the only hotels available were in the luxury tourist area. I found this to also be true there. In conversation from Shoyu permalink -

I used to write a lot of one-off unofficial training docs for field employees. When I was in #PR, I discovered that one of the people there was collecting such information into a single, unified training guide and maintaining it. I contributed indirectly to the guide and have been utilizing and distributing it since then.
Today, my first "patch" was accepted, a one-line addition.
Hopefully, his guide completely displaces the use of my previous, now outdated and unmaintained, training docs throughout $EMPLOYER.In conversation from web permalink -

Kenny called because he's trying to advise someone that is dealing with several equipment replacements for people working from home. I'm unable to improve the process the person is using.
I mean, both Kenny and I suggested an improvement, but some manager would have to approve it and I don't see them doing that.
In an earlier call, Kenny and I discussed the #COVID-19 vaccine rollout and some workplace changes that we hope remain after the pandemic is squashed.
Kenny called twice, and B called once. B called because she's working with someone that I worked with in #PR and my name came up in conversation.
S texted, but it was about weather in #SoCal versus the weather in the SE US.In conversation from web permalink -
