I’m glad that #NY is trying to reign in abusive uses of force. I don’t know if this particular set of rules is “the right one”, but the sets of rules most states have are definitely the wrong ones.
I keep seeing references to a decision made in #NY state, to send / keep elderly patients in group care homes instead of dispersing them into less-crowded situations where fewer would be affected by any one person’s infection. I honestly do not have the time or inclination to dig into it.
But I can point to the state of #GA suing heavily affected #Atlanta to remove local mask-requirements and other restrictions. Instead of allowing local governments to respond appropriately, Governor Kemp said he wants people to voluntarily choose to behave appropriately. But he cannot be unaware of those who will not do so for political reasons.
There is over a century of precedent (since Typhoid Mary) that shows (1) that some infectious people will not choose to behave appropriately, (2) that their misbehavior causes other people to become sick and die, (3) that the only and best response is to force such people to restrict their activities, such that they can no longer infect others. In the original case, it was because the carrier did not understand how one could carry a disease without any obvious symptoms. That was still a new idea at the time. In today’s situation, it is willingly choosing not to understand that which requires restrictions on what one can do or where one can go.
The Black Trans Travel Fund is a mutual-aid project developed in order to help provide Black transgender women with the financial resources needed to be able to self-determine safer alternatives to travel, where women feel less likely to experience verbal harassment or physical harm. This project was created out of direct response to the relentless and unacceptable violence Black transgender women across the country have been experiencing. We are currently providing our service to Black trans women in New York and New Jersey, and will be working to expand our efforts to other states soon!

It was 03:00, but I called him. He was alive. We later figured out the "diary" was likely a creative writing assignment. And he wasn't dating anyone at the time.
More than a decade later, he still occasionally brings up the time I woke him in the middle of the night over something I'd read online.
@kai I think you should move to #SoCal. You've been really unhappy in #Buffalo, #NY, for several years. You'll never know whether a move to the #Los_Angeles area will improve your life unless you follow Uncle Jed to California.
.
Give it a decade. If you decide it isn't for you, you can move back to NYState with some different experiences and hopefully better financial resources.
