There was one guy there that I communicated with a few times. I asked him one time why they used followbots (and followed people with #nobots in their profiles) and he said something to the effect that the federation improvements were more important. But he was careful not to answer many questions, usually responding "we're hat thieves!" to things people asked.
I'm actually a little sad that they're gone. They couldn't have had a very large core group running their servers, but they had all sorts of things running. They were an inspiration.
youre just showing your ignorance by missing the point entirely about followbots. followbots are *unnecessary*, that should be the only reason to stop using them. we have relays, theyre objectively better, use them.
i support neither of those and have federationbot blocked on this instance. going to block your hatbot too. read my instance rules here: https://anime.website/static/rules.html and see that i *do not allow followbots*. im not telling my users to add #nobot or #nobots or whatever else to their bios, because they shouldnt need to. bots shouldnt follow people, people should follow people.
It sounds like the #botmeister (likely newjack.city's admin) needs to hear that violating the #nobots is not going to help that instance, because most people will just block the #federation_bot and possibly the whole instance.
@amic I'm okay with a federation #bot if it is grabbing from my main account to help fill in conversations on their home instance. I'm not okay with such bots when they ignore my #nobots tag andsub to my less public ALTs, where I post things for limited audienced.
This would be less of an issue if #Fediverse software adopted #Diaspora's "aspects".
I get a little frustrated when someone points their #followbot at this account despite the #nobot / #nobots tagging and the explicit pointer to my public account at @lnxw48a1
If you want to fill your instance's feed, use the account which intentionally allows that instead the one that intentionally does not.
@NYbill @theru @maiki There seems to be a convention on some instances that putting #nobots in your profile should be honored ( #bots and #botmeisters should not subscribe the #bot to your account ).
