* #tornado watch for most of eastern #NE and western #IA
* #t-storm & #tornado warnings in parts of eastern NE.
Areas under warning include: Colfax, Platte, Butler counties (tornado and hail), plus Colfax, Platte, Butler, Lancaster, Seward, Saunder counties (t-storm)
If you don't yet have one, get a NOAA weather radio and use the "SAME" code to set it for your county. That way, in addition to your cellphone's alert tone, you'll get alerted with tones and speech.
I have never seen one, but everyone tells me that #tornadoes are no joke.
Also, the follow-up post says that more than 20 private jets flew to Omaha #NE yesterday ... speculation being that regional bank CEOs are coming to see Warren Buffett for some sort of bailout. I don't necessarily hold to that view, simply because with so many publicly traded entities, someone would have said something that required a disclosure filing with the #SEC (the real one, not the South Eastern Conference of college football, but the Securities and Exchange Commission). They may or may not have filed such a filing, but for sure, those CXOs would go out of their ways to avoid the appearance of needing to file.
Note also that most recent problems in the #cryptocurrency space have been caused by entanglements with traditionally regulated commercial #banks, #exchanges, and other regulated #financial companies. I don't think people should consider cryptocurrency an "investment" so much as a secondary channel for transactions that may offer continued access when your bank is inaccessible.
I recently experienced a bank being inaccessible, as the bank I'd been using since the 1990s sold the branch where my account was located and I've spent the last couple of months dealing with a bungled transition. Coming on top of six months without income, it has been highly stressful. Just yesterday, they notified me that they think they've cleared the last obstacle.
#NOAA / #NWS issuing Winter storm warning for !SoCal mountains (including those in #Riverside and #San_Bernardino counties) for 3-7 inches of heavy, wet snow above 4,500 feet elevation.
Also Winter storm watches in effect in SE #NE, SW #IA, central and NE #KS. Accumulations up to 3-7 inches of snow, 35-40MPH winds, blowing and drifting snow through Thursday 2023-02-16.
This is potentially deadly weather, so if you're in an affected area, make sure you have food, fuel, water, blankets, warm clothing, and then stay inside with your heater running.
#NOAA / #NWS has been alerting about this for a few days to encourage people to prepare.
This has been a tremendous trip. It turned out to be nothing like the early plans (eleven weeks in SW #MO instead of two weeks in #SW_MO plus 1 week each in #KCMO and #Omaha #NE), but this has been a needed bonding time with the youngest set of grandkids.
I did talk to #Daddy_A and Mike/Ami/Jade tonight and informed them that severe weather is heading their way. These were regularly scheduled calls, but I was able to talk about the weather (and about the Brooklyn subway shooting).
Colby is also in that area, but I do not have a regularly scheduled call with him.
Omaha #NE -- city declares apartment building unlivable, evicting tenants
What ever happened to keeping the landlord in the city jail until the property is repaired? Or at least helping the tenants get housing before shutting the building completely down?
Includes snow, mixed precipitation, wind, ice, extreme cold (-30F / -34C in central Nebraska), with extreme wind chills being mostly across the Northern part of the area. #NOAA / #NWS has sent at least 20 alerts since 04:00 Eastern (03:00 Central). Weather begins this afternoon / evening and continues through Saturday, possibly into Sunday in some areas.
If you're in the middle of the US, take proper care. This weather can kill, either directly or by causing traffic collisions.
I have not been to either place in Winter, so that may turn out to be picnic weather. But if the Weather Service sends alerts, it probably means what it says.
