Learning to use #Mutt as my mail client has taught me a lot about the inner workings of email. It's still akward as heel for me to use though.

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Wednesday, 14-Nov-2018 22:51:01 UTC maiki @trashHeap @cstanhope I thought to myself today: I could just buy a cheap Pinebook, and use it as a dedicated ssh device, and run all my software on one or two servers at home.
#mutt, #tootstream, #newsboat, #lynx, #curl, #taskwarrior. Then I just worry about the one key, and specs and the rest don't even matter.
So... local storage + HTML5 may live in a larger world, with many options.

[Moved] beni@wirebug.ch (beni@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Saturday, 22-Sep-2018 07:47:40 UTC [Moved] beni@wirebug.ch I just installed #Enigmail on Seamonkey only to realize that they completely dumbed down the interface. Is there a way to get the old mode back or has the time come to switch back to #mutt?

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Monday, 03-Sep-2018 00:24:18 UTC maiki I was showing Clover how I send email, via #mutt. First I showed opening a browser, clicking a bookmark and finding a button to compose a message. Susan began making fun of me about all those "seconds" I am gaining.
So while I was retorting I also emailed S via mutt, and let C press `y` to send. I made a comment showing how awesome it is to send mail from the commandline and encouraged S to check eir mail, to which e answered:
"I don't want to check my mail, it takes too long." ^_^

DebXWoody (debxwoody@gnusocial.de)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Feb-2018 10:33:39 UTC DebXWoody Hallo zusammen,
Meine C / C++ Programmierungen sind jedoch schon sehr lange her.
Vielleicht hat jemand Interesse mitzumachen.

I've learned after a few years of trying that I'm not smart enough to use Emacs. -
maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Sunday, 28-Jan-2018 18:47:37 UTC maiki @craigmaloney I am definitely taking your warning into account, but let me ask for clarification: is it trying to process #ActivityPub in a #mutt-like interface, or just the general sense of turning everything into an email client? Or is it one of those, "madness lies everywhere" scenarios? ^_^

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Sunday, 28-Jan-2018 18:40:21 UTC maiki I am kinda disturbed that the more I use #tootstream, the more I am trying to make my experience using #Mastodon like using using #mutt. In that, I really want more concrete actions and filters on the various inboxes (I know, I should learn more about #ActivityPub).

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2017 21:58:39 UTC maiki I get clickable links in #mutt because of my terminal, but it doesn't sense a linewrap midway through, and as you well know, folks send ludicrously long URLs in email for whatever reason.
So I started glancing at my .muttrc, see if I can configured something (I thought I was making them clickable...), and realized I had configured #urlscan a while ago.
urlscan is awesome! It even provides context!
But you should still not send HTML via email. 😩

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Monday, 04-Dec-2017 21:33:03 UTC maiki @fuuko for folks that solely use a web interface to check their mail, I recommend #ProtonMail. For folks that use local clients (#Thunderbird, #mutt, etc.), I suggest #Fastmail, or to investigate the mail offerings of their domain registar. For instance, I think both #DreamHost and #Gandi have decent spam filtering, and no severe outages or anything.
I "require" mutt, and I delete mail rather than archive it, so spam and filtering is the most important for me. #GPG works when I need it. ^_^

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Saturday, 25-Nov-2017 02:51:16 UTC maiki Pro-tip for #mutt users: the End key goes to the bottom of the message. That is where unsubscribe links are normally included.

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2017 04:42:56 UTC maiki @Are0h have you used #Lavabit? Does it allow a normal client (like #mutt)? That is what's holding me back from #ProtonMail, and it looks to be the same deal with #Tutanota.

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Tuesday, 07-Nov-2017 22:53:21 UTC maiki @ajroach42 complete aside: what was your good email program? ^_^
I reminded of the quote from #mutt's page (which I use):
> "All mail clients suck. This one just sucks less."
I use email... oddly. But I always want to know how others use it!

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Wednesday, 25-Oct-2017 19:39:48 UTC maiki No email on my mobile. I can't #inbox0 mobile mail. But I need something for a meeting, from an email message.
From #mutt, [v]iew attachment, select text/plain and save to my local directory that is synced to #Nextcloud Notes. Moment later and it is on my mobile, ready for distraction-free processing!

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Tuesday, 19-Sep-2017 23:56:53 UTC maiki Ha! Just had a mini-panic attack when I went to delete a message in #mutt and it gave me the "Key is not bound" error.
Did I just unbind d somehow, without knowing?!
I quit, hoping it didn't rewrite my config, even though I don't think it does that...
> MUTT
Ah! Caps Lock. My old friend, that I use all the time...

maiki (maiki@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Monday, 18-Sep-2017 23:51:20 UTC maiki Ha! Just saw something called #WaveBox is available as a #snap, so I had to go see what it was, because in my heart of hearts I secretly hope #ApacheWave will make a comeback!
Anyhow, it looks like the thing I would hate most! Haha!
#madprops to the project, it is MPL, so cool.
But gah, that is such a dumb thing to use. If you are looking at that and thinking, yeah, this is gonna really help my workflow, you are just stuck in the wrong place, my peep!
And that isn't just because I use #mutt!
