Got an emergency alert about a radar indicated #tornado ... the storm cell appears to have past the Springfield #MO area. St Louis area also warned.
No known damage in this area.
There was some significant wind and rain for a few minutes. No hail observed. #GS3 was aware enough to be concerned about a tornado, but as far as I know, no twister touched the ground.
Since I'm rearranging my life, I'll be quitting $EMPLOYER pretty quickly. I had intended to wait until I have a replacement, but I think it is better to change everything at once and walk away now.
#sonTwo will be at work on 2024-04-08. Hopefully, his wife will take a day off. I would like to take grandkids to see the total solar eclipse (passing through SE #MO) ... the next time it happens in the lower 48 US states will be something like 20 years later.
In particular, I think #GS3 will enjoy it. #GS4 seems to be more interested in ocean life (penguins, dolphins, orcas, seals, etc) than space.
I also learned that her long-term best friend moved from #MO to #CA, so they won't celebrate $FRIEND's birthday together for the first time in five or six years.
I had not to my knowledge worked with this guy before, though he claims to remember me from assignments in #Lousiana and #Missouri. (In #MO, I was field supervisor in charge of tech support for all facilities outside Jefferson City in the entire state. Maybe he was in JCMO, but he sure wasn't in any of "my" offices.)
@gnu2 I am currently staying in a hotel in #AL, but I live in a house in #CA ... or in #MO ( #GS3 asked me when I am coming back home ). In a week or a month or a few of each, I will return home after my assignment is done.
( Current thinking is about three or four more weeks until I leave. )
Having seen the 2017 "Great American Eclipse" from Cape Girardeau, #MO, I know that the four or five minutes of totality is worth all the effort it will take to get there. I do not know how worthwhile it will be to travel to see a partial or annular eclipse.
This is potentially deadly weather, so if you're in an affected area, make sure you have food, fuel, water, blankets, warm clothing, and then stay inside with your heater running.
#NOAA / #NWS has been alerting about this for a few days to encourage people to prepare.
200,000 fiber-enabled units ... it sounds like they sold the areas they hadn't invested in modernizing. I recall that they were starting to pull fiber optic cabling into some neighborhoods in Columbia and Jefferson City #MO one time when I worked there. But they weren't prepared to offer it to the local businesses and residents yet.
