I'm starting to wonder whether operating a shared #code-hosting platform is only possible with sponsorship. #Gitorious collapsed because their paid hosting couldn't cover their costs (which includes the cost of free hosting). I don't believe #Github ever publicly released figures, but I do remember hearing a rumor that they were not profitable before #Microsoft purchased them. #Bitbucket still persists, but #Atlassian has made so many changes to their offerings that IMO, using their platform is putting everything that touches it at risk. #SourceForge went to all sorts of dangerous extremes to try to monetize the huge number of repositories they host (most of which appear to be residue of projects that have either died or moved their active repos elsewhere).
@bobjonkman As far as I am aware, #Minecraft is not FOSS. It was created by someone called Notch and developed by a company called #Mojang. It required a Mojang account, even on privately host servers.
Mojang was purchased by #Microsoft, and their accounts were replaced with Microsoft accounts.

Hi there,
Over the course of 2021, millions of Java Edition players switched over to Microsoft accounts. We’re happy that so many of you are already enjoying benefits like a single account for all Minecraft games, two-factor authentication and improved player safety.
Starting on 10 March 2022, your Mojang account, which is used to play Minecraft: Java Edition, must be migrated to a Microsoft account to continue playing. Don't worry – everything about your game and how you play will remain the same, including your in-game username, progress, creations and skins. The only change is how you'll log in. Plus, we'll give you a special cape just for migrating!
Be sure to protect your account during migration. Never enter your account details on third-party websites. If you receive an email that asks for your account information, do not respond. Moving your account can only be done through the launcher or on your Minecraft.net account page and only takes a couple of minutes. Mojang will never ask for your account information in any other way. Beware of phishing attempts and keep your account safe!

I closed my (basically unused after one day) #Minecraft account a long time ago. I'm not going to create a #Microsoft account in order to play a game that I don't play.
I also looked at #Dell and #Microsoft Surface "2n1" tablet-laptop units. Over $1,000 for the cheapest in-stock models, plus all the pain and suffering that goes with using #Windows.
We talked a lot about #Microsoft's purchase of Activision-Blizzard and other game studios and about price comparisons between #Walmart, #Target, and #Amazon.
If an item is available at all three places, I generally prefer to buy it in person at Target, even if it costs more than either Walmart or Amazon.
> this is caused by Microsoft using a signed int32 variable to store the value of a date, which has a maximum value of 2,147,483,647
This is basically a Y2K / Y2K32 bug. We’ve known such things could happen since the late 1990s, so I’m really surprised that #Microsoft didn’t use a wider datatype (int64 at least).
#Microsoft #Bing censors Tienanmen Square "Tank Man" search results, even outside of PRC (where they are required to censor such results). Naturally, since most of #DuckDuckGo's results come from Bing, #DDG searches are also censored.
This is a good reason for DDG to switch from being Bing results with a little additional from Yandex and Baidu results to either fully independent or at least being more of a metasearch engine.
