Nothing that I'm aware of. #PixelFed does photo streams, but not really albums or galleries AFAIK. If #MediaGoblin implements AP, it could fill that gap.
I wonder how active #mediagoblin is these days. the last time I tried it it was pretty cool, but it had no federation what so ever. I think it was in the works, but my instance broke, and I never bothered to fix it.
I really don't want to get on Birbsite (the only support option?) but does anyone know what's up with #GoblinRefuge because it seems when I upload even simple image files, it takes hours and hours to finish processing?
Or does someone know an open #MediaGoblin instance that allows video and images that doesn't suffer such a problem?
@joshim it depends what you want to use it for. The main differences are; * #MediaGoblin supports any type of media, including audio, photos, documents, slideshows, and so on. #PeerTube is just for videos. * MG instances are stand-alone. You can only find media via searching on the instance its hosted on or a web search. PT supports #ActivityPub, so your videos can be found via searching on other instances, and #WebTorrent, so if one of your videos goes viral, it won't #SlashDot your instance ;)
> Was looking into @cwebber 's old #MediaGoblin project, but looks like efforts to federate its social features through the tech under Mastodon stalled years ago.
Well, its efforts to build its federation layer lead partly to our work on ActivityPub, which Mastodon later adopted. But it's true that sadly this work in MediaGoblin itself stalled, even if it made available a protocol for the rest of the fediverse.
@LWFlouisa@vampire.estoff of the top of my head, #FreeCode projects like #MediaGoblin and #GNU FM, and hosting projects like #Ibibio. Maybe folks could list projects they know of that need help with a #HelpWanted tag?
@bhaugen for example, there are 2 fediverse apps focusing on image-sharing; PixelFed and Anfora (formerly Zinat). The first one was Quit.im, which was built as a web client for #GNUsocial, so once the AP plug-in for GS is rolled out (hopefully by the end of the year), if Quit.im is still in active development, there will be 3. If #MediaGoblin rolls out AP support there will be 4. Others may emerge. Does this 'image-verse' sub-federation need it own name and identity so users can understand it?
