And techpeeps are called upon to assist family and friends when it fails, which is free labor for Zoom and Netflix etc.
Much of that would evaporate in an #IPv6 focused Internet. In conversation from mustard permalink -

It is supposed to be encrypted #IPv6. I have not used it, so this is not a recommendation. In conversation from mustard permalink -

It is already awesome. The format is a problem, particularly collapsing any number of ":0:" into a single "::", but the opportunities and challenges of giving every device a public IP address are worthwhile, IMO. One of my claims revisited: We use @DevuanOrg@twitter.com at @ungleich@twitter.com to save time and resources. Today I extend this: using #IPv6 instead of IPv4 also saves you time and resources. Proven directly by the pricing on http://ipv6onlyhosting.com. And the @ungleich@twitter.com flash sale. Good to have a point

For the first time, I had an #IPv6 only connection. No #IPv4 at all, and the laptop isn't set up for 4-in-6 tunnelling. If I had thought about it, I would have launched my VPN, to see how well it handles that situation.
That's a signal that any software that connects to networks needs to be capable of handling such connections now. It isn't just a "one day this will happen" anymore. In conversation from web permalink -

I'm pretty sure SIXXS is shut down.
Such a tunnel might be a way to get IPv6 back for your instance. In conversation from web permalink -
@mcscx2@quitter.no (mcscx2@quitter.no)'s status on Thursday, 07-Jun-2018 17:35:08 UTC @mcscx2@quitter.no @knuthollund hi, I think the situation with IPv4 has not improved yet. Also https://fediverse.network/quitter.no still reports 65% availability.
OTOH I can confirm that quitter.no has been working very well during my whole testing period of almost a week over my #IPv6 socks #proxy.
In case other IPv4 !quitterno users want to try: I just did
ssh -D 5555 username@some-host-with-ipv6-connectivity
and set the socks proxy settings in firefox to localhost:5555.
Maybe there are still some little oddities even with IPv6, because every few minutes the ssh client logs a message like:
"channel 13: open failed: connect failed: No route to host"
but one doesn't notice anything of that in firefox.
For comparison I also tried a socks-proxy-over-ssh connection to an IPv4-only host and, as expected, firefox will give the same "cannot connect to quitter.no" error pages as via a direct IPv4 connection. In conversation from quitter.no permalink -
