Flooding reported over the roadway at #I-70 exit 124 in Columbia #MO. If you are travelling across the state of #Missouri today, be aware that the #t-storms and possible #tornado have brought some flooding with them (hopefully minor flooding that doesn’t cost anyone their life).
Naturally, they say “turn around, don’t drown”, but that might not be such a good idea on a major Interstate Highway.

The severe #t-storm in the #KC area is expanding rapidly. I'm getting a bunch of SMS from #NOAA / #NWS about it. Moving E at 30MPH, wind gusts are 60MPH and hailstones about the size of a US penny coin. Includes most of #KCK and its surrounding cities, portions of #KCMO and its surrounding cities, and portions of the following highways: #I-70, #I-35, #I-635, #I-470, #I-435.
If you're in the area, be alert and prepared to seek shelter if necessary.

Flash flood watch in 12 mid #MO counties NW of Columbian and Jefferson City. Includes Kirksville. Valid from 19:00 CDT through tomorrow afternoon. Expect heavy rainfall, with flooding in low lying or poor drainage areas, flash flooding in and along smaller creeks and streams
If you’re in the area, even just commuting across the state on #I-70, pay attention to #NOAA / #NWS warnings.

#NOAA / #NWS alert: Flash flood warning for Howard County in central #MO. At 14:20 CDT, a levee failed near Hwy Z and Hwy 87. Affected: Franklin, New Franklin, Rocheport. Although #I-70 is not mentioned, it does pass near this area. Also not mentioned is the Katy Trail, but it is mostly adjacent to the River in that area, so it goes without saying that it may be dangerous. If you’re in Mid #Missouri, be prepared to move to higher ground.

The MODOT site shows closures on #I-70, #I-44, #I-49. Some highways in the area around Springfield #MO are “covered”, presumably with snow.
Depending on the area, wind chills are still as low as -25F. It may be a good idea to stay home if you can.

Westward, ho! Westbound on #I-70. Sleeping in #KCMO tonight, then flying home to #SoCal tomorrow.

Arrived at the #hotel. I think the GPS SatNav device took me on the hilly-est, winding-est two-lane highways it could find. Probably could have cut one or two hours out of today's drive time by sticking to the major routes that I already know, like #I-70, #I-64, #I-55, #I-44. #MO-47? What was that device thinking?
