@lxo I admit I am no expert, but I have not seen a #cryptocurrency based on #git and #gpg. -

Logged into #GitHub for the first time in years. It immediately asked me to verify my e-mail address (the same one I've had and verified with them years ago). I'm going to have to create another address (a public one) to use, so I can generate new #GPG keys.
Going to have to put something up there for job-hunting purposes. I'll use it as a backup or something, so I've got content there, but whatever I do is not entirely dependent on their goodwill. We all know that we shouldn't willingly give corporations the ability to control us, but I'm hoping to be one of the few that acts on this knowledge. -

Beginning with #Thunderbird 78, #OpenPGP support will be built into Thunderbird and #Enigmail will no longer work.
The set of people with whom I communicate with #GPG is very small and growing smaller, so this will not have much of an impact. In conversation from Shoyu permalink Attachments

#Zoom buys #Keybase as part of its plan to fix its security flaws. https://nu.federati.net/url/268891 [www cnbc com]
Not sure that buying Keybase, a company that originally uploaded people's #GPG #privkey by default, is going to add any understanding of security at all. I've avoided them since I discovered they were uploading private keys by default (though I've heard they later changed that) because that indicated they did not know what they were doing.
I am glad that Zoom seems serious about fixing their issues. I just don't think this is advancing toward that goal. Now, instead of one business with severe security issues, they have two businesses which might have such issues. In conversation from web permalink Attachments

@moonman Uploading your #gpg privkey used to be the default, but #keybase's recent blog post says their newish chat app does not allow that at all. In conversation from AndStatus permalink -

@jxself I've run into a problem with downloading your #GPG key. When I run:
> sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys F611A908FFA165C699584ED49D0DB31B545A3198
I get the response:
> gpg: no keyserver known (use option --keyserver)
> gpg: keyserver receive failed: bad URIIs that user error on my end, or a problem on your end?

I almost have this computer stripped down to nothing but the #torBrowser, #emacs, #gpg, and #git. Well there is some stuff on here that I don't know what they do so I am leaving them alone.

It looks like the #keybase folks (villified for uploading people's private #gpg keys) are back*. This time, with some sort of mobile application.
* I wasn't even aware they were gone. It doesn't seem so long ago that I saw someone promoting this great new way to get everyone to encrypt their e-mail messages. In conversation from web permalink -

#pgp #gpg #efail In conversation from social.bitcast.info permalink -

@kde The vulnerability ist not in OpenPGP - it is a problem with clients. Why do you mix this all the time? #pgp #gpg In conversation from social.bitcast.info permalink -

I don't get it... this #efail / #gpg / #pgp / #smime thing is all over German media (e.g. here: http://www.tagesschau.de/inland/e-mail-verschluesselung-101.html) even though it is totally irrelevant for 99% of people, as almost no one is using PGP encryption for his/her mails anyways and the few that do will most likely have disabled HTML emails (or at least loading of remote content).
It would be much more proportional to write a *shocker* article every single day about how almost all emails are sent with no e2e encryption at all.

#PGP and #GPG are so broken, the EFF is recommending that you immediately stop using them until after publication of the problem. #infosec #security #GoodLuck #WereAllDoomed
