Finally listening to Christopher Lemmer Weber and co-host discussing "Datashards" https://media.librelounge.org/episodes/026-announcing-datashards/librelounge-ep-26.ogg [media librelounge org]
Somewhat similar to #IPFS, #Tahoe-LAFS, #FreeNet -

@Naughtylus there have been tools roughly like this since the late 90s, #FreeNet being the archetypal example. The tail end of this page lists and comments on some of them:

@xj9 how do I find #SciHub or search its contents using #BitTorrent? This seems like something that veteran decentralized projects like #FreeNet and #GNUnet would be perfect for, but how do we make the #UX as easy as the web?

#ForceNetwork appears to be yet another project to create a privacy-orientated internet, like #FreeNet, #I2P, #MaidSafe, #Urbit etc etc Anyone know anything more detailed about it? Worth looking into?

@someone
> can #freenet used as a meshnet between mobile without internet connection?Not as far as I know. I like the concept but I've never found it practically useful (probably due to network effect).

@1iceloops123 Honestly, #Freenet scares me. My understanding is there's an encrypted storage area on your computer where random other users' uploads are stored. So if the FBI cracks the encryption they can jail you because some perv's child porn is on your computer.
That's how it was explained to me. -

Just recently heard about a network called #MNet that was said to have similar ideas to #Freenet. So I found it on #Sourceforge. Abandoned since 2004. https://sourceforge.net/projects/mnet/files/mnet/ -

@drak wrote https://srfi.schemers.org/srfi-119/srfi-119.html and the book http://www.draketo.de/proj/py2guile/ and is otherwise super into censor-proof networks like #freenet .
@hattiecat seems enthusiastic over open hardware CPUs in general. -

@andersbateva ie loss of network reach, maybe people don't move to them for the same reason we don't move from the web to #FreeNet? -

@goldbrush or #ZeroNet, or good old #FreeNet, which has been around since 2000, but with very limited uptake
