    There is a “castle” in #FL that was apparently built by one man, who quarried the stone, trimmed and fitted it, and assembled them without mortar. The site is also called #Florida’s Stonehenge. This is according to #Wikipedia. I did not bother to check anywhere else.

      Coral Castle is an oolite limestone structure created by the Latvian-American eccentric Edward Leedskalnin (1887–1951). It is located in unincorporated territory of Miami-Dade County, Florida, between the cities of Homestead and Leisure City. The structure comprises numerous large stones, each weighing several tons, sculpted into a variety of shapes, including slab walls, tables, chairs, a crescent moon, a water fountain and a sundial. It is currently a privately operated tourist attraction. Coral Castle is noted for legends surrounding its creation that claim it was built single-handedly by Leedskalnin using reverse magnetism or supernatural abilities to move and carve the stones. History Coral Castle's own promotional material says Edward Leedskalnin was 26 years old when he was suddenly rejected by his 16-year-old fiancée Agnes Skuvst in Latvia, just one day before the wedding. Leaving for the United States, he came down with allegedly terminal tuberculosis, but spontaneously healed, stating that magnets had some effect on his disease.He spent more than 28 years building Coral Castle, refusing...

    One year ago: on a cold, rainy #Louisiana day, I met #sonTwo and his wife for a meal in Hammond. It was my first time meeting my daughter-in-law.

    There had been tornado warnings most of the way from #Baton_Rouge to Hammond, and up into #Mississippi, where they had spent a night or two camping.

    Afterward, they went to New Orleans and then back home to #Florida, but we were under a 50-mile restriction, so I went back to BR.

    My son just sent me a photo from that day. I look so OLD in that picture.

    #sonTwo recently said that being in #SoFlo for Hurricane #Irma showed him something. When he was home in #SoCal, the fact that "the Big One" might happen at any time meant that we always made an effort to have stored food, water, pet food, and to have fuel in the vehicles. Because storms can often be forecast days ahead, #Florida residents tend wait until the last minute to prepare.
