    1. This Is How Steve Jobs Killed Adobe Flash
Adobe Flash powered most interactive content on the web throughout the 2000’s, but the introduction of the iPhone — and a directive from Apple CEO Steve Jobs — changed everything. Here’s how it happened.

Isn't it time for #Chrome / #Chromium based browsers to remove #Flash? Adobe plans to end it in two and a half months.

You know, with #Flash being removed from browsers late this year or early next year at the latest, I often wonder why it is still there. I know it was bundled in Chromium based browsers, but by now they should have stopped doing that.

@geniusmusing Last time I checked, #Flash is still embedded in #Chrome, #IE11, #Edge. They will all need updates to completely remove the CPU-spinning security hole.

Hmm. The current version of #Scratch ( https://scratch.mit.edu/ ) is based on Adobe's #Flash, rather than the original #Squeak #Smalltalk. Flash goes #EOL at the end of this year.

Hopefully, they've already started on their rewrite.

This $EMPLOYER mandatory online training course still requires #Flash. You've got to be kidding, right? There's probably about a year until Flash itself goes EOL and no browser will run it at all.

I can see them waiting until the last minute, then panicking about not having a way to prove we know that we're not supposed to [insert action here].

@amic The bad thing about #Flash being bundled in #Chrome, #Edge, #MSIE is that users don’t even know they have it until they try #Firefox and wonder why videos & animations on some sites don’t work.

I would love to see all major browsers completely block all Flash months ahead of their schedules.

@LWFlouisa any site that's still using #Flash is obsolete. You know #Adobe Flash plugins can use your camera and various other things to spy on you, right, and that spyware is turned on by default?

Apparently, since Adobe is discontinuing Flash support in 2020, there's been a project by a member of #archiveteam to archive as many #flash games as possible. The project's called Flashpoint and there's a good if a little old article about it on Medium here: https://blog.usejournal.com/adobe-flashs-gaming-legacy-thousands-upon-thousands-of-titles-and-my-efforts-to-save-it-58c14811558a

The Discord the article links to seems like a nice and active place. I hope the project will be successful!

Remember #Flash won the #web for 15 years while it sucked. Why? Because it let people do stuff they wanted like videos and animations -- easily. And it's not because we couldn't do it any other way, we could. Yet we had to wait almost 2 decades to see it die, at the price of stability, security, etc.
    Feature trumps everything.
