I should probably dedicate a #RasPi to trying this out. It is basically a rethinking of the #Beaker_Browser / #DAT / #Hyperdrive projects to make it easier for the sites & services offered to be useful ... and to stay up even when your browser closes. -

Next up, #Dat / #HyperCore universe #interop discussion ... that one's pretty long. I may skip it and go on to "Cabal's Subjective Moderation System". In conversation from web permalink -

#Hyper / #HyperCore
#HyperSpace
#HyperDrive
#HyperTrie
#HyperDaemon
I think I'm beginning to see a pattern. ;-)
What they really need to do is express why this exists and what kinds of things it is good for. Even just a subset ("It can do much more, but these are the things that are already implemented") would be good.
I mean, I'm aware of #Beaker-Browser, but what else does it do? To some degree, this conference should have started with the idea that at least some of the attendees have no real background with #Dat / Hyper, #Beaker, or anything related. In conversation from web permalink -

I don’t know if I’ll have the unscheduled time ... two possible time-consumers supposed to happen this week, but neither one has set a time yet. I suppose when they do, they’ll set conflicting times.
Anyway, the #Dat project is sponsoring their first conference. https://blog.datproject.org/2020/07/15/dat-community-ecosystem-conf-2020/

@onymous when you say "dat", do you mean something like #Beaker browser? The SSB protocol is based on #DAT, as are various other projects.

One thing I want to do while I'm home is set up some p2pnet endpoints on #RasPi or other SBC boards on a separate subnet from the rest of my network.
In particular, I'm thinking about #SafeNetwork / #MaidSafe (or as I call it, "The MaidenSavers), #IPFS, #DAT. Maybe I could even host a small #Tor onion site or #I2P eepsite.
That's likely to be something I do _after_ I put my servers back in the rack and install some up-to-date OS on them. (I need to do that for job.next() purposes. The p2pnet stuff is just because I'm curious about it.)In conversation from n5.federati.net permalink -

Reading sites for things like #IPFS and #Beaker / #DAT and #MaidSafe / #SAFENetwork, some things are never stated.
If someone were to set up a #RasPi to be a node on one of these types of #peer-to-peer networks, would they need to set up NAT passthrough, or do their protocols already include something like STUN / TURN?
Mostly an academic question, as I’m not willing to potentially open up access to my home network. In conversation from Shoyu permalink -

What's the difference between #ipfs and #dat? Is one better than the other?

@gaditb @bhaugen @feonixrift @charlyblack @mayel I would define #activitypub statuses not as a subset of html but a schema of JSON files which is also what #ssb and #dat are using mostly.

It is sometimes difficult to take #dat serious, because everything is written like they are using "dat" as shorthand for "that".
Dat protocol, tho.

If anyone wants to get a website up on #dat linked to a domain name lemme know if you need some help. Just went through the whole process and came across a bunch of things I was confused by but managed to figure out.
