The guy behind Natural News, Health Ranger, and other sites that spread #anti-vax #conspiracy_theories ... these sound like they'd be pretty easily seen through, but based on the number of people quoting NN articles, that doesn't seem to be the case.
#mRNA vaccine against #malaria tested in animals (mice), shows promise.
I'm glad to see some progress in figuring out how to stop malaria, but I do want them to put more effort into explaining why we inject messenger RNA into patients instead of putting it into a bacterial culture, then harvesting the protein and using that in our vaccines.
If this method would provide similar protection, it would also disarm some of the fears of #anti-vaxxers that Bill Gates is planning to live forever by replacing everyone else's DNA with his own. (I haven't heard that specific fear, but it isn't too far removed from some of the #conspiracy_theories out there.)
Instead, they believe that experimental vaccines caused the Spanish Flu, not the influenza viruses that have been obtained from the frozen corpses of flu victims.
"... by the way, the 1918 flu epidemic was caused by a botched experimental vaccine from the Rockefeller Institute, initiated at Ft. Riley by the US Military. Later, this inconvenient fact was buried and covered in misdirection ("spanish flu")."
Supposedly, the Pope, the Byzantine Emperor, the Holy Roman Emperor fabricated an almost 300 year period of time in order to make a certain year become AD 1000 and support the HRE's claim to empire. Meaning that Charlemagne and other Carolingian rulers never existed.
> Fauci also tackled the deep mistrust that community members have with the government concerning “unfair and unethical” medical treatment in the past.
> “That’s the past, a shameful past, that we have to live with, but we have safeguards in place that will never let that happen again,” Fauci said.
There are no safeguards that cannot be overridden given sufficient pressure, so that’s not something he should have promised. That said, I find it concerning that so many are passing around misinformation about the vaccines being _intentionally designed to be harmful to darker people_. This is a worldwide effort, not just some Southern #pollies teaming up with big pharma and unethical medical researchers. Unless you choose to believe powerful groups are trying to use the vaccines to wipe out all darker people everywhere, there’s nothing to support such #conspiracy_theories.
Well, even if you believe that, there’s no evidence, just your beliefs.
Yeah, I have to admit that the way that #conspiracy_theories are so widespread does cause a sense of unease. I suddenly started hearing people use the term #Boogaloo recently, and found out that these are people that believe that a big civil war is coming to the US soon.
The thought that someone steeped in these beliefs may act to bring about the changes they think are needed / coming ... or to prevent changes they believe are undesirable / being secretly pushed. I just don't want to think about what such people are capable of.
@moonman@shitposter.club periodically posts images from this cartoonist's site. They are often from some off-the-wall point of view, but this one has police-style vaccination enforcement units wearing "ZION" patches.*
If I am not confused about #conspiracy_theories, I think the one about mandatory vaccination supposes that microscopic mind control chips are (or will be; not familiar enough to know their beliefs about timing) embedded in the vaccines.
* NOTE: I am not accusing moonman of believing or endorsing anything the cartoonist says.
I don't think anyone except extreme #conspiracy_theories people would believe that the Wuhan virus lab _intentionally_ released #COVID-19 or that it was a germ warfare candidate, but an accidental release (e.g., contaminated employee visits the Wuhan seafood market, coughs, passes virus to dozens of people) is a reasonable possibility, as is people catching it from a live animal's sneeze at the market.
I don't think there will ever be proof either way, but the rapidity and stringency of their response _once they finally acknowledged the outbreak_ and their quickly producing genetic maps could be used to argue for the lab's early involvement. (Personally, I'm neutral on either direct-from-animal in the market or direct-from-animal in the virus research lab.)
Bad. The chances that this will disappear after the crisis and never rise again are very small. This also feeds those who think #COVID-19 is a hoax meant to expand government and corporate authority over individuals. We really don't need large organizations to feed #conspiracy_theories.
Why are #conspiracy_theories so often clearly wrong (Lizard people control the planet? Really?) when they could be about something verifiable, like the #asparagubbians’ plan to fill our plates with awful tasting #asparagus?
@mangeurdenuage I think one of the early #conspiracy_theories about #COVID-19 / #2019-nCoV is that the Wuhan virus research center accidentally released it, and that was why they were able to gene-print it so quickly.
At this point, I think the priority should be finding ways to stop it's spread of destruction (e.g., vaccines). It was clearly already outside the boundaries of the quarantines before any of them were put into place, so that tactic is a failure.
