!ccmusic #ccma https://ccmusicawards.com/ -- I know I haven't shared since they were announced. I figure as much as I posted about it, people might be interested.

the thing I was thinking about is if there was something Music Manumit, blocSonic, or maybe the #CCMA could do for people in the community with mental health issues. There's no reason not to use the connections I already have, even if I can't be as involved in those projects as I was. !ccmusic !ccmsc !musicians !depression
I probably should use the !mentalhealth group more, but meh Mastodon.

It's been a long struggle, but things with the #CCMA are wrapping up nicely.
We do need some help picking Album of the Year and Track of the Year nominees and winners after the genres are done (that's May 30). The problem is there are a ton of blocSonic nominees. We don't have all the winners yet, but it's possible some hip hop winners will come out of there too. We're trying to keep this as unbiased as possible
As far as genre awards, the only thing we are really still trying to figure out is #folk track nominees. Please, please, please send your suggestions. Please do NOT send album suggestions. It'll just be noise. Folk means whatever you want it to me, but given the other folk judge, doubt folktronica is going to end up being a winner. If you feel strongly that it's amazing though, I'll give it a shot.
As of the moment, this is my winner for the folk track: https://rallyroot.bandcamp.com/track/yes-i-do -- it's super poppy, so if you'd hate to see a folk award go to something so poppy, you better send me your suggestions.
Seems likely David Rovics is going to win album of the year of the folk category.

@craigmaloney You want to jump in on the rock/pop category for #CCMA? It definitely leans more rock since I ended up picking the nominees. I'd do it, but multiple blocSonic nominees. There are a couple of albums you may already have listened to (possibly more, but I doubt it)

Anybody want to help with #rock or #folk for the #CCMA? I have a list of the rock nominees. 9 days to pick winners.

it's really too bad the #CCMA doesn't have a #punk category. This would be a great entry: https://flashbackpunk.bandcamp.com/releases !ccmusic

I am at peace with setting things in motion for the #CCMA next year. We'll see what the other major party involved has to say about it.

@craigmaloney Before I suggest this to ccMixter & Mike (the 2 biggest contributors), I'm thinking next year to simplify things only #FMA things will be eligible. I have FMA upload privs, and I'm pretty sure Cheyenne would give you privs if you wanted them. Worst case scenario, #CCMA has a curatorship, so we could add you to that. I think this is best since every other place has some sort of profit motive.
It's not perfect, but there are some positives.
1. It'll make onboarding judges much easier.
2. It will be good for the FMA. As far as helping FMA...Jamendo hasn't done anything to help us out and I think ccMixter will be cool with the idea. They are already putting their mixes on other platforms. Soundclound and Bandcamp are just going to do what they are going to do. I've never been that um, in tune, with Magnatune
3. I can just make collections rather than uploading everything on the backend ones nominees selected.
I suppose archive.org would be another option, but archive.org is more of a jungle, and less of a garden, as far as I'm concerned
That's all my char, so probably good stopping spot

So, here's my current thoughts on https://twitter.com/musicmanumit/status/977686842303709185 , which takes into account the suggestions of @craigmaloney and @thelovebug who both think education is the most important aspect.
I'm not ready to commit to anything, but here's what I'm thinking: Do a festival of some sort where all the live performances are released under some CC license and put up on the #FMA. The bands wouldn't already need to be doing CC work. It would be a way for bands to experiment with the license, which fulfills the educational piece a lot of the the "Other" have been talking about.
Although it's limited, I do have some festival experience. It's a huge undertaking. Doing it would mean someone else would need to take over the #CCMA, or the CCMA would need to go dormant for a while. I need to talk to Tom and Mike, but I don't think it's impossible.

What's good that's instrumental in !ccmusic land. I've got some old favorites, but going through new stuff for the #ccma is difficult. Even if they aren't eligible for the CCMA, I can always try to get them on Music Manumit.

my !adhd is so bad. I was thinking about making an album. Then I was thinking about recruiting people to make a Heaven & Hell album to be the first release on blocSonic.
If someone does want to make a Heaven & Hell album and release it on blocSonic, though, do let me know. !ccmusic
Luckily, I caught myself, unlike with the #CCMA.

Thinking about setting one of these up for #CCMA as slack is clearly not working. https://www.mailmanlists.net/
I don't have the time to run my own servers, but if anyone wants to volunteer or suggest an alternative, I'll probably make a decision this weekend. @wolftune@quitter.se

Nominees for #ccma now due May 30.

@cwebber Have there been an MediaGoblin awards? Like, best Album hosted on MediaGoblin? Best documentary hosted on MediaGoblin? It might be interesting for the #CCMA to learn from anything like that.
-
@craigmaloney probably not a #CCMA contender, but has some interesting indie pop type melodies interspersed with some heavy as fuck stuff. At the very least, might be good for the "something a little different" closing track...but I think it's heavy enough to fit in a show on it's own: https://eem-kills.bandcamp.com/

Again bummed there is no #CCMA punk category: https://disordine.bandcamp.com/ !ccmusic

It seems like something I could use in my other projects, but that means significant time away from those projects. Music Manumit is booked for a while, and I don't know that there's anything pressing for blocSonic. #CCMA is the real bottleneck. Thanks for the feedback. We'll see what others say.
also, the comment about the fediverse is just because it's so hard to get people to use the same thing. Some people are on facebook, some on slack, some on GNU Social, some on twitter. I don't have time to go everywhere.
-
I have too much to do as it is, but it's too bad we don't have a punk category for #CCMA: https://krocodilla.bandcamp.com/

I guess ultimately it would be very beneficial to go, but we'd have to find someone to take care of the cats. I'd have to book flights. I have enough stress as it is.
The one thing to go against that is if I can meet people there to help out with #CCMA stuff. I guess I should talk to Mike about it.
