@kai It would be great if we lived in an open source world, but companies that have closed source invest money into development. Sure, they sometimes take from open source, but they have the money to keep making new advancements. I can live with that.
I cannot live with the monopoly model. We like what you did there, so we're going to buy you out. One company to rule them all. Then, it becomes about price gouging and they have me over a barrel. #Adobe
@LWFlouisa any site that's still using #Flash is obsolete. You know #Adobe Flash plugins can use your camera and various other things to spy on you, right, and that spyware is turned on by default?
@Shufei@david_ross well, vanilla #Firefox does come a proprietary #Adobe#EME module bundled with it, so scepticism is definitely healthy when it come to #Mozilla software these days
Well it seems most people just tend to so-called pragmatism when it's about free, libre and non-free, proprietary software. But just another point of view: This pragmatism has got us into real big trouble regarding soft- and hardware. Because we don't care too much when modern systems are delivered with broken components and even the base is with #UEFI a gateway for more problems. We don't care when products and companies enforcing cloud-computing as backend. And yes, some of us are even proud using the crappy products of #Adobe.
The other way? Just try free, libre software in comparison like #GIMP or #Scribus. Take part at the development, even with writing proposals for optimizations within the workflow. Don't use this pragmatism!
TIL that #Adobe Illustrator adds a proprietary color management scheme to the #PDF outputs it produces, thus making many free software viewers (or, perhaps more accurately, most except its Acrobat reader) get the colors wrong (i.e. pink becomes brown, etc), even though they can view the file just fine.
This just happened to me, and is fucking outrageous. Good job, Adobe: you managed to take a free-standards format and inject your proprietary shit in it, making it essentially proprietary again. Even DOCX would be a better choice than these rigged PDFs now.
