Someone posted about life happiness coming from three things:
(1) — Work you love
(2) — Living in a place you love
(3) — Surrounding yourself with people you love
IMO, 1 and 2 are not necessary, and the pursuit thereof actually risks ruining any chance for life happiness.
Work you love: As soon as something changes in your job duties or work environment (such as management / ownership changes or schedule / pay / benefits), the job you loved becomes the job you can’t wait to get rid of. If, instead, you seek a job that
(A) pays enough to support you, and
(B) leaves you with the time / energy / mental clarity and other resources that are needed to pursue fulfillment outside the workplace,
these little changes at work won’t seriously dent your enjoyment of life.
Live in a place you love:
Living in a place you don’t hate is important, but traveling places and living there for months at a time has shown me that I can survive and maybe even thrive in all sorts of places I never thought I’d even visit. As long as I don’t hate it (which so far, includes everywhere I’ve been except possibly parts of MS and parts of PR), I can find happiness there.
The people that matter to you part is important, but it depends on you and them whether they have to be physically present in the same location you’re in. Frankly, I think I benefitted from realizing that I hated the place I was in and needed to communicate more with friends and family members. I, who hate telephones and shy away from even the shortest phone calls, have been calling people and strengthening relationships by talking with them.
