I would say that the practices in the country where this stretch of road is located play a very big role. For example, in the US, a lot of our highways have big ugly billboards along the roadside. Some of those are now the lighted electronic signs that flash and move. In that situation, some drivers may already be near their limit of mental processing.
We also have state highway departments running scrolling text signs to warn of temporary road conditions, AMBER alerts, and even sloganeering ("buzzed driving is drunk driving; if we catch you, you'll get a free stay in our hotel", "wear your seatbelt; click it or ticket", and so on). As much as I favor seatbelts and detest impaired driving, I really wish they would not distract drivers with their slogans.
On the other hand, in a nation where such tomfoolery is not allowed, a safety sign may be able to safely be placed in that location.
During the chat, GS3 showed me his new monster truck toy (a little bigger than a Hot Wheels toy). GS4 was eating a sandwich and kept calling me "Dadda" and "Papa", then (after sonTwo corrected him) he'd call me "Gan'pa" before starting over with Dadda. He ate about half the sandwich before he held it too low and it became dog food.
The new puppy is teething, so they need to have lots of chew toys to stick in front of it whenever it tries to chew something it shouldn't chew. Hopefully, this time they can weather the storm long enough to get the doggy past that stage. A prior puppy's chewing got so bad that they took it to sonTwo's in-laws because it even tried to chew on GS3.
The existing dog has learned to escape from human children when it wants a little rest, but the doggy child goes into the backyard when the older dog goes out.
Someone finally came and I got my item. I hope it is worth the 45 minutes-plus wait time for an employee to come and unlock the case and grab one for me.
They didn't try to upsell because I bought one of the two most expensive models in its category.
"With a $STORE card, you can pay $XX.XX per month for YY months."
No thank you.
"For $ZZ.ZZ more, you can get an extended warranty."
No thank you.
"It does not come with $PROPRIETARY_OFFICE, would you like us to add it?"
Hell no!
"I'm just letting you know. A lot of people expect it to come with it."
I have had one of these before. I know what it is like.
#GitHub's proprietariness has always been an unseen landmine, but like its predecessors #SourceForge, #GoogleCode, #CodePlex etc, projects have chosen based on present convenience (FOSS friendly, zero or low price for non-profit projects and individuals, large numbers of users --> potential for drive-by contributions). However, the big issue with GH and the others listed above was that to some degree, they were the center of gravity for code-hosting in their respective time periods.
#DVCS software such as Git, Breezy, Mercurial, Fossil, Darcs, Pijul and so on could be used to enable a much more distributed hosting model--and should be. If people and projects do not have to join a specific #code-hosting site in order to contribute to a project / attract contributors, the allure of sites like GitHub starts to fade.
Several #California cities, including some in !SoCal cancelling their #Independence_Day fireworks shows because their contractor got raided by the state fire marshal.
