Also, #Vivaldi now has its own #Mastodon instance. I think #Brave Browser had an unofficial instance at one time, and #Mozilla intends to open theirs early in 2023.
I'm still not "there" yet, but I am doing some #PHP stuff. Maybe I'll be able to help make !GNUsocial and #Friendica competitive candidates for $ORGANIZATION deploying their own #Fediverse presence.
@lxo Yes, I think that's always been a feature of #Friendica. !GNUsocial allows following PuSH/websub enabled RSS & Atom feeds ... and there's an old add-on that also supports RSScloud enabled feeds.
The time may come for !gnusocial, #Friendica, #Mastodon, and other Fediverse software to move their #IRC channels to a different network. Hopefully, we can discuss and co-ordinate that move.
@vegos I agree. To most organizations, their primary concern is reach. So they congregate on big #corpocentric #socnets, even when the central corporation running things is actively hostile to their point of view.
Then they're butthurt when their accounts are shadowbanned.
Years ago, I tried to persuade some local Black churches and ethic-focused organizations to join !GNUsocial and #Diaspora, but was unsuccessful. I think they all joined #Facebook, where their posts are hidden by the algorithms.
Efforts to mount a rescue of #GSNO appear to have failed. If youβre a user of #gnusocial.no, you have about two weeks to grab your data and find a new #Fediverse home. You can see a list of some public !gnusocial instances at https://gnusocial.network/try/
Recommend me !fediverse instances that: * have minimal block lists (only blocks spam; doesn't block controversial content or NSFW) * doesn't look like a copy of twitter
Bonuses are: * sane admin * neutral domain name * both activitypub and ostatus support * good dark theme
I feel like it seems I hate GS.. lol. I don't, I swear! It's just that I'm full of ideas and have much time to think. Besides, this is mostly all stuff I've seen on other sites/boards/forums. I think these ideas are all different from the other popular fediverse sites. Hopefully they incorporate support if necessary and this all makes GS stand out from the rest and gain in popularity. :D
Talks about organization, support for additional APIs of other open source projects, bookmarks for groups, actor bookmarks displayed on profile, plus a couple UI suggestions.
I checked friendi.ca and the option to "expire old content" seems promising, and I'd like !gnusocial to have something similar. But then about every english instance on the main directory instates some kind of instance block I don't agree with. Maybe the post can exist, but after some time, the referenced user/id in the post converts to anonymous; or only n newest posts retain usernames.
Looking for active users on !gnusocial instances is tough when the public timeline is filled with off-instance posts and the People directory doesn't sort by activity.
I'm on the lookout for anyone on a ostatus+activitypub instance with a crazy habit of retweeting and favoriting.
