Are you subscribed to the Diaspora relay and have you submitted your server data to http://the-federation.info/?
Otherwise you will only get content that is already on your system - and if you are the only user, then surely it is nothing that you don't already know.
Have a look at /community/global as well. Do you see content there that isn't already on your network page? This is exactly the content where the tag search is taken its data from (all items with "uid=0").
Have a look at the log file as well. When you see a line with "Tagged items:" then the tag search had found some content.
I do have some PR in development with some small performance improvements. To copy the item upon receiving is a concept that I don't like - and possibly this could be a problem as well. And I prefer a redesign of the tag handling instead.
