@charlag It's not that easy because what about #security? Better having applications installed from secured and known repositories. Not everybody is able to build applications and packages from the source.

@charlag As I've said: Repositories are already not always that secure, but it's all about the number of sources you need for having a full-flavored installation with all applications / programs you need. The more sources needed the more gateways for possible unwanted intruders. I can live with having not always the latest software within a repository or better build that from source otherwise. But better to have older versions working instead picking everything for yourself and have possible risks within your own local installation.
