@eryn @Tom @Mainebot In theory, it’s ideal. But in practice, there are lots of interoperability issues since most others default to UTF-8. And some users still prefer their native encodings because most of their idiosyncrasies are understood
E.G. A lot of Japanese people still prefer Shift-JIS because UTF conversions tend to mangle some characters. Some programs still use JIS X 0208, which is 40 years old(!)
