99.999% uptime ("five nines") is about five hours of downtime per year, if I've done the math correctly.

@lnxw48a1 The 5 9's created a big discussion at $EMPLOYER as to what downtime actually mean. Was it any time the server(s) couldn't be reached? Was it only during working hours? Did weekend updates/upgrades count as downtime? If the internet was down did that count as server downtime as it couldn't be reached in a different location?
In the end it was decided to not ask IT for metrics about uptime as they couldn't agree on a definition. It was 4-5 hours of my life I will never get back.
