   One of my sisters claims to remember details from our childhood years that no one else remembers--or if they do, their account is vastly different from hers--so much that I avoid conversations that might go toward the old days.

     @lnxw48a1 this is not unusual. When I studied cognitive psych we learned about "flashbulb memory" studies. People were interviewed immediately after a major event like 9/11 about what they remembered, then interviewed again weeks, months, and years later. Participants would continue to swear black-and-blue that they remembered events exactly as they happened, but as time went on, their accounts differed more and more from what was recorded at the time.
