Wondering how long it will take Germany to close all restaurants. France just announced that next to cinemas, bars, and clubs restaurants have to shut down. As I'm on a hourly contract, no way to make money then. (This and perhaps even next month will be ok, but then?)

Today all restaurants were closed in Germany (or rather: only permitted to serve take-aways from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM). I was put on "undetermined leave", i.e., I'm not fired but I cannot come to work until the ban is lifted. Neither my employer nor I know how much wage is paid, if at all. Rumours have it that all employees will receive some form of short-time allowance, but how much and when is totally unclear.
The city is eerily silent. No traffic, no people outside. All restaurants, bars, cafes, cinemas, museums, swimming baths, schools, kindergartens are closed.
We had our last shift today. Tomorrow we return to the restauranrt to receive vegetables and other stuff for free that may otherwise spoil. Nobody knows how long the restaurant will stay shut down, but in my estimation it will take about 4-6 weeks, given how long #Wuhan shut down all activities. I really wonder how I'm going to make ends meet the coming weeks.
My employer was pretty desperate today. The restaurant hangs by a thread. He told me a few hours back that he although he and his restaurant is covered by a lot of insurances, this case is exceptional. His insurance told him today: "We don't cover financial losses in war-like situations." War-like situations.
I'd like to nudge climate change activists to pay very close attention. This is one of the very few example we have to learn how to behave when the infrastructure comes to a standstill. (Which we will experience a lot more drastically should the climate projections turn out adequate.) We need to pay attention now, learn, try to find ways to make survival and adaptation not a fall into individualistic prepperism but humane soidarity.
This is a God sent learning experience. Keep in touch with whatever holds you gently.
