@Wolf480pl what you're describing is exactly how MailPile already works. To use it, I have to open a terminal and enter "mailpile". Perhaps I should have specified my goal as making them more like native *GUI* apps? As such, I agree it would be better if the web UI always launched as a separate window by default if possible (although some users might want to toggle to a new tab).

Strypey (strypey@mastodon.nzoss.nz)'s status on Friday, 19-Jul-2019 10:50:14 UTC Strypey @Wolf480pl at present, installing SyncThing on #Trisquel gives me two menu entries, one to start the back end, and one to open the web UI. What I'm proposing would allow one menu entry to open the web UI, which could then connect to the plug-in to crank up the back-end. Currently I can shutdown the back end from the web UI but not start it up, which feels counter-intuitive. With the plug-in I would be able to start the back end again from inside the UI.
