Getting ready to spin up a new VM machine at home (AMD A8-6600K(3.9Ghz)/32GB ram/?TB drives). Been a few years since last one (Xenserver) but it seems they have been completely eaten by citrix. Going to use as home and dev server so need VM instead of just Linux. I have done some looking but nothing really standing out.
What is the best and preferably FOSS hypervisor out in use?

@geniusmusing I can’t say what is best, but you do have #KVM and #Proxmox among your options. Perhaps Citrix is the reason so many hosters are switching away from #Xen?
Others:
I think #OpenVZ is closer to containers than virtualization, and if you’re looking toward containers, you’ll also want to consider #Lxc / #Lxd, #Docker, or even #Sandstorm.

@lnxw48a1 Thanks! KVM is not quite a hypervisor as it is does not include an OS.
Proxmox looks promising, OpenVZ, Lx* & Sandstorm all sit on an OS. Docker, well, is way more than I even want to get involved with at this point. Found out that it already has Xenserver installed on it so leaving it for now, I will give Proxmox a spin later.
