I'd been seeding images on a couple of machines and a few people have reported that they couldn't clone the dat links. Sometimes it's was that the dat command wasn't working on their system and then there are all sorts of issues with node versions and dependencies. This amount of cloning trouble isn't scaleable and the disadvantages are outweighing the advantages which I thought this approach might have.
Dat is still quite new and I don't think it's at the level of reliability where using it is as straightforward as wget or something like that. Some of this isn't dat's fault and is just down to the complexity of nodejs itself and lack of distro packaging.
