Keeping the first question pretty easy:
When and how did you discover the concept of free and open-source software?

@brandon Early 2000s, as I got relatively late into computer stuff. First contact was Mozilla, followed by Linux a few years later.
@vinzv What's kept you here?
@lnxw48a1 What was the class called?
@brandon mid-nineties, from reading #2600. I am almost sure it was there that I joined #SDF, my first shell account.
I didn't actually own a computer until 2002, and aside from a few years running Windows for games more often than not, I've used a GNU/Linux system.
In many ways, it was trying to play Counter-Strike that introduced me to the concept of proprietary software. ^_^
I know "2002" doesn't sound significant, but for me it means I didn't own a computer until I was in my 20s.
I thought I would be left behind, but like nerds and kissing, it made me great because I never took it for granted (and practiced with my hand). ^_^
@lnxw48a1 Oh god if I saw "intro to the internet" today...I'd just laugh
Which is scary because it means I've lost perspective
@brandon Both all the people I met and the idea behind, as I had fully wrapped my head around the aspects of FLOSS.
@maiki Well...that's an interesting way to be introduced to the concept/ideology :P
I wonder how counter-strike did that for you :P
@vinzv Makes me happy to see that :)
@brandon it wasn't until I really wanted to play CS that I had to compromise and use closed software. ^_^
@maiki oooh so for you, free software was the standard, the "default"
That's quite interesting as most I know started out with proprietary (Windows ofc)
@bob Such a hipster ;)
But for real, I'm glad that free software is considered 'default' for you. Do you have any links to those books/ebooks?
@bob Thank you :)
