The term "users" is so ingrained within computing that I've never given it much consideration. I know @aral has some opinions on this.

Currently in the new #freedombone UI I am using the term "users". It would be trivial to change it to "people". Would that be a better description?
The other alternatives like "purchaser" or "customer" I don't like much. "Traveler" is maybe a little better, and I wouldn't mind being described as a "seeker" although most people would think that was just weird.
To gauge what the average person might know I always look at how Android describes it, and Android does indeed have "users", although in most cases it's a single user system and so not many people will ever interact with that part of it.
