The choice to go microkernel + capabilities means that applications will be much more secure against attacks to the system.
The current things that are called "capabilities" in the Linux kernel and in Android aren't capabilities at all, but more coarsely grained privilege sets. More on that: https://lwn.net/Articles/641534/
