Trump’s Immigration Ban Is Illegal: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/27/opinion/trumps-immigration-ban-is-illegal.html via .@aaronstein1

@vegos Likely not illegal if it is implemented pending congressional action. Best bet for someone opposed to these changes is to get Congress to quickly start formulating the future of US policy.
-
Does not look like Trump is interacting with congress. Just a dictator at work.
-
Given the prior administration's propensity for legislating by executive order, the current administration can easily claim to be following precedent. This is why we need to oppose most such orders, even when they enact changes we support.
-
That said, I think hindering the repatriation of green card holders and dual-nationals goes so far beyond sensibility that even the Republican-dominated #Congress should be willing to overturn it.

@n0admin @lnxw48a1 He's working within existing statutory authority in the Immigration & Nationality Act as amended, alas.
-
@n0admin @lnxw48a1 When people have complained to me about inefficient government, I've cautioned that they SHOULD NOT want an efficient one
-
@n0admin @lnxw48a1 The Commanding Officer will be pushing toward a very, very efficient federal government.
-
@alpacaherder I suspected as much, given that the prior occupant also unilaterally ordered changes in immigration policy and enforcement.
What I was getting at is that people need to support reining in the power of government BEFORE someone whom they oppose comes to power and proposes some policy they dislike. After one or more occupants you agree with will come one or more you disagree with, wielding the same powers.
-
@lnxw48a1 Yeah. Being feds makes us more sensitive to the usage of power. We're careful with it at $BUREAU to not be #stormtroopers.
-
Indeed. When conspiracy theorists tell me that my agency scares them, I tell them the organization's leaders can't even wipe themselves without assistance.

@n0admin Clients who feel smothered by due process at my bureau don't have the slightest clue of what a world without it would look like.
